Artifical Surface Audit - Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a pitch audit?

The pitch audit will provide information on the effectiveness of the present maintenance programme, the present state of the artificial turf & infill, and on how safe the pitch is for users.

Why should I use Total Turf Solutions to carry out a pitch audit?

The report provided to you by Total Turf Solutions will provide you with a completely independent view of your surface. The recommendations will be based on the latest research and will provide a basis to increase the longevity and playability of the surface.

Can I play on my artificial pitch in all weathers?

The recent levels of heavy rain may result in some flooded surfaces; well maintained pitches have high infiltration rates and should drain quickly, and play can then continue. If the surface is frozen then it is recommended that the pitch is not used. A frozen surface reduces the surface deformation and traction properties of the carpet and infill; this is a health and safety risk to users.

Is my pitch maintenance free?

No. Rapid deterioration in the playability of an artificial turf pitch will occur without regular maintenance, due to reduced infiltration from surface capping by contamination, irregular  surface levels from displacement of the infill and increased risk of wear of the turf fibres – decreasing lifespan and playability, and increasing replacement costs.

What happens if I do not maintain my artificial pitch?

There will be a build up of contaminants within the carpet/infill matrix which will provide ideal conditions for the growth of moss and algae; along with the loss of surface levels, increased fibre wear and playing conditions that are below the required performance quality standards, will result in possible Health & Safety risks and loss of revenue through users moving to other better standard facilities.

Can Total Turf Solutions help me implement a pro-active maintenance programme?

Yes, as part of the pitch audit we will make recommendations on how to improve the existing maintenance programme and how to ensure that the maintenance is being carried out under the correct conditions. This will ensure that you get value for money from the process.
