Artificial Surfaces Audit - Optional Services

Infill Contamination Analysis

Contamination within the turf infill will slow the movement of water through the profile of the artificial turf pitch. This will result in increased surface hardness and reduced traction; if the infill conditions remain moist then there will be an increase in growth of moss and algae.

TTS calculate quantify the level of infill contamination using a technique developed by Dr Andy McLeod as part of his doctoral thesis. A sample of the infill will be removed from the surface and taken away for analysis; after two days the percentage per volume of contamination within the infill is calculated. The results are then compared to known control experiments quantifying the effect of contamination on the movement of water through the infill; this will provide an indication of the maintenance required to improve surface conditions.

Surface Performance Analysis

An artificial sports pitch is designed and installed to conform to the performance quality standards set out by the relevant sports governing body. Over a period of time the performance of a surface can reduce if the correct maintenance programme has not been used.

If there are concerns that an artificial pitch is not performing or that it does not conform to performance quality standards, TTS can complete basic surface performance analysis and compare the results to the relevant standards.

Full Survey of Pitch Levels

If there are any concerns about the overall surface levels, TTS can complete a ground survey and provide a topographical study of the surface.

Floodlight Light Levels

After a number of years the amount of light reaching the playing surface can be reduced by the build up of contamination on the light surfaces or by faulty lighting equipment. TTS can complete a basic illuminance plan of the playing surface which will highlight any areas that are below the levels recommended by the relevant governing sports governing body.
