Alan Lewis MSc NDT F Inst G
Technical Director

Alan is a Technical Director and has worked in sports surface development and construction for over twenty five years. During his career, to date, he has achieved numerous qualifications including 'The Institute of Groundsmanship' (IOG) National Diploma, the 'Master Groundsman of the Year Award' in 1991 and has successfully gained his Masters Degree in Sports Surface Technology from Cranfield University. The MSc qualification combines all the major components which are required for a sport surface consultant and is the highest qualification a sports consultant can achieve.

Prior to starting TTS, Alan was Head Groundsman at the prestigious Shrewsbury School in Shropshire. With his practical and technical knowledge, Alan also provides a very important role within education. Working in connection with the IOG he has presented training courses for the England & Wales Cricket Board, The Football Association and The Rugby Football Union. In conjunction with Pitchcare Ltd he designs and presents training courses for groundsman on both summer and winter sports surfaces.

With this wealth of practical and technical experience, Alan is recognised as one of the leading groundsman and lecturers within the industry.

Dr Andrew McLeod MSc, F Inst G
Technical Consultant

Andrew McLeod has recently completed an Engineering Doctorate at Cranfield University. His study researched the effect of variances in maintenance programmes, benchmarking surface performance using Performance Quality Standards (PQS) and research into surface construction of synthetic turf sports pitches. Previously employed as Head Groundsman at The Royal Hospital School, Suffolk, he was responsible for the schools 130 acres of sporting facilities.

During his 20 year career with the industry, Andrew has also accredited himself with numerous recognised qualifications including an MSc in Sports Surface Technology at Cranfield University and the Institute of Groundsmanship National Intermediate Diploma in The Science and Practice of Sports Turf Culture. He has recently been named as a Fellow of The Institute of Groundsmanship.
 

David Bates
Technical Consultant

David began his professional career as Head Groundsman at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. There, David was awarded two commendations from the ECB and earned a reputation for preparing some of the finest pitches in the country. Indeed he received national praise from the ex-England captain Nasser Hussain. Prior to joining TTS David was also appointed Chairman of the First Class Groundsman Committee, promoting research/development into cricket surfaces. David is also a trainer and pitch advisor for the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and The Institute of Groundsmanship (IoG).

David’s role within TTS is as a specialist in all aspects of the design and management   of natural turf cricket facilities. His experience covers consultancy and hands on construction at many county cricket grounds, schools and local league clubs throughout the UK.
