Alan Lewis - Director Total Turf SolutionsAlan is our Technical Director and has worked in turf culture for over twenty years. In that time he has achieved numerous qualifications including 'The Institute of Groundsmanship' (IoG) National Diploma and the 'Master Groundsman of the Year Award' in 1991. During his time with TTS he has also completed over five years of study at Cranfield University, and has successfully gained his Masters Degree in Sports Surface Technology. The MSc qualification combines all the major components which are required for a sport surface consultant and is the highest qualification a sports consultant can achieve.

Prior to joining TTS Alan was Head Groundsman at the prestigious Shrewsbury School in Shropshire. With his practical and technical knowledge, Alan also provides a very important role within education. Working in connection with the IoG he presents training courses for the England & Wales Cricket Board, The Football Association and The Rugby Football Union. With this wealth of practical and technical experience, Alan is recognised as one of the leading groundsman and lecturer within the industry.

 


 

David Bates

David Bates - Director Total Turf SolutionsDavid began his professional Groundsman career has Head Groundsman at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. At Northamptonshire C.C.C. David was awarded two commendations from the ECB and earned a reputation of preparing some of the finest pitches in the country. Indeed he received national praise from the ex England captain Nasser Hussain. Prior to joining TTS David was also appointed Chairman of the First Class Groundsman Committee, promoting research/development into cricket surfaces. David is also a trainer and pitch advisor for the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and The Institute of Groundsmanship (IoG).

David is also experienced within the winter games sector of the industry. Working within TTS who are appointed Technical Consultants to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) David coordinated a national grass roots initiative. The RFU's Community Club Development Project (CCDP) completed pitch improvements nationwide including pitch construction and drainage schemes etc.

David has been instrumental in designing the TTS 'total-play' system non-turf cricket pitch. 'total-play' is a unique cricket artificial surface, which incorporates new technology in the construction of base materials, netting systems and surface carpets.
